I went to get lunch today at a restaurant I frequent. To my surprise, the male boss of the eatery starting calling me "John" or something. His wife reminded him that I was NOT John. This is not the first time this has happened. I was once accosted on an airplane by an upset woman who thought I was a former lover who had jilted her (and I wasn't!). Often times, especially in Taiwan, I have been approached by people who say "Long time no see, Teacher __________!" They were confusing me with another "long nose" who taught them English.
I find this all especially ironic as I remember Oberlin College's Asian-American Alliance whose T-Shirts protested "We do not all look alike!"
